Description

A picturesque out & back route through mid Wales, culminating in a circuit of the spectacular Elan valley reservoirs. Suited for late summer cycling. Experienced controls used throughou
Leaving Tewkesbury, the route makes its way through rural Worcestershire, Herefordshire to the market town of Hay-on-Wye for breakfast. On through Builth Wells and mid Wales to Rhayader, where you loop around the beautiful Elan valley and its dramatic reservoirs. Mid way around the reservoir loop is the lunch stop control venue is Penbont House, sited virtually next to Penygarreg reservoir dam. You complete the Elan valley loop returning to Rhayader via the Cwmystwyth mountain road and its breathtaking vistas. Retracing back through Builth to Boughrood you divert to control at the Honey Cafe in Bronllys. Return journey continues via Hay-on-Wye through the golden valley to Lock's Garage Services, Allensmore (also known as the Fortnum & Mason of the West). For the final stage you cross the river Wye at Hoarwithy, crest Marcle Ridge then though lanes returning to the upper reaches of the Severn Vale and arrivee at Tewkesbury.
Hot & cold food/drink available at all controls, you will visit ALL controls during their normal opening hours.. And just in case you run low on energy, there are numerous opportunities to 'pit-stop' between controls.
The ride is X-rated, purely because it will be a car park start. The route and controls are all 5-star.
