Description

A challenging 116km mixed surface loop of the Tay Estuary for the experienced gravel and MTB rider, featuring almost 50km of, off-road riding spread over 14 scenic sectors. Click on the organisers website link (above the online entry button) to view the provisional event route in the Ride with GPS app.

Hosted by Trilogy CC, the event starts from the Ancrum Outdoor Centre in central Dundee and finishes a short distance away on the iconic summit of the Dundee Law. Hot food and drinks at the finish and lots of re-supply options at the mid point control are included in the entry fee.

You can validate your ride electronically using the popular E-brevet app or with a physical brevet card. The event speed limits are a generous 10 - 30km/h giving you between 3hr52min and 11hr36min to get round.

The route is suitable for both gravel and mountain bikes. The off-road sectors run primarily on well made gravel roads and double track, however, you will also need to traverse a selection of testing rougher terrain, including a number of steep single track ascents and descents. The route is fairly resilient and you should not encounter any knee deep mud, but you may still potentially find some slippery surfaces, subject to prevailing weather conditions. A mixed surface tyre with a bit of volume (40c +) that can handle some mud will most likely be the best choice. A large part of the climbing on the event is off-road, steep and loose in places, a selection of lower gears will be very useful.

ROUTE CHECK 20/03/25 : The route has come out of the winter in very good condition. There has been some farming and forestry activity in a few off-road sectors, however there was hardly any mud or cutting up of surfaces and the route was ridable on a basic gravel tyre. Riders will still need to make a judgment on a suitable tyre after taking into consideration the weather conditions prior to and forecast for the event. The numerous trees that had fallen over the winter in the Pitmedden forest sector have now been removed and much of the other vegetation has been trimmed back. This section of the route is now very straightforward. There were two gates closed in the Redmyre Estate sector, we understand to prevent access to quads and motorbikes, and there may be a requirement to lift bicycles over them, depending on Estate activities on the day of the event.
