Description

A mixed surface ride taking in roads, paths, bridleways, canal towpaths, forest paths etc., over a 1/3 of the route is off-road makes for a challenging and fun day. Intended for riders with some off-road experience and a suitable machine* E-Brevet or postal finish as I intend to be riding an event myself on the day.

An extended version of "See That My Bike's Kept Clean". A layby start with free light refreshments before setting off. Out to Marbury Country Park is mainly lanes but does use any nearby available bridleway sections where ever possible. At Marbury Park it is traffic free designated paths for several kilometers as we head out of the park, all the way down the River Weaver and along the delightful Whitegate way. More lanes with the odd forest trail and bridleway gets you over to the shops at Elton for a control. From here we head out to pick up the canal and once through Ellesmere Port we ride a wonderful section of the Wirral Way. Bike paths from Little Neston get us to Hawarden Bridge where we pick up the truly delightful River Dee Cyclepath all the way to Chester. Canal towpaths though Chester to Christleton to rejoin the shorter route. The return from here is mainly road based but does include a few really nice bits including the medieval pack horse bridges at Hockenhull. The route finishes near a Tesco Express and McDonalds for the final proof of passage. E-Brevet user can just upload their E-Brevet for me to validate, if you want your paper card stamping and validating then you can post it to me and I will validate and return it to you.

*You can off course ride it on whatever bike you would like but I would recommend a minimum of 35mm tyres with some form of knobbles
