Description

The Bridges and Batches 100 is a richly scenic ride that blends gently rolling farmland with rewarding climbs and panoramic descents — a proper Shropshire day out for riders who enjoy some leg-stretching terrain.

Starting in the shadow of Shrewsbury's historic Abbey, the first 35km is flattish tracks up the Severn valley to Knockin then south crossing the river at Melverley.

From there things start to rise as you tackle the Bulthy climb, a steady ascent that marks the gateway to hill country. That’s followed by Long Mountain, where wide views open up across the Marches and toward the Cambrian hills.

A flattish 20km section through Chribury delivers riders to the main control at Churchstoke, A good point to refuel before the finale.

After the Hissington climb you are in classic Shropshire high ground: wild ridges, twisting lanes, and occasional sheep. You pass beneath the jagged ridgeline of the Stiperstones, with its dramatic tors and remote feel, before the exhilarating descent to Bridges - one of our favourite roads to be riding on a Sunday morning.

From Bridges the course turns for Shrewsbury over the side of the Long Mynd, and down to Pulverbatch then the long gentle descent into Shrewsbury.
