Description

Join CTC Cambridge for this straightforward 100km route. This new route takes advantage of quiet lanes and long stretches of traffic-free paths and is as flat as possible - ideal for anyone new to audax or riding with teenage offspring who fancy their first AUK points.

Starting in Haslingfield we head out to controllers in Ashwell. Then it's my favourite road in Bedfordshire as we go onto St Neots, where you'll be assured of a warm welcome from our controllers at the Ambience cafe. Onto Godmanchester and across beautiful Houghton meadows (home to classic children's book, The Children of Green Knowe) to St Ives. Then onto the Cambridgeshire guided busway path, for 15km of glorious traffic-free cycling [yes, we know that there might be roadworks... if so, we'll use the A1307 path which is similarly easy although not as glamorous]. Onto the Cambridge Sightseer section of our ride; we'll whizz down the only hill in Cambridge for a selfie outside King's College, before using traffic-free paths back to Haslingfield, where we'll have the kettle on and food waiting.

There's numerous lunch or ice cream or coffee possibilities: Ashwell, St Neots, Godmanchester, Houghton Mill (National Trust), St Ives, Northstowe, Girton, Cambridge.

After the chelsea bun challenges last year, there will be no buns! But there will be plenty of cake to go round...

Easy access to Cambridge central train station from London Kings Cross, London Liverpool Street and Ely. Limited car parking onsite reserved for those who really need it. Easy parking in Haslingfield in streets near the Methodist church, or at Trumpington Park and Ride just off the M11.

Entries open on 1 April and close ten days or so before the event to help admin. E-brevet available, with a QR code at the start and finish.

GPS, routesheet and notes will be emailed out a week before the event. GPS routes to and from Trumpington Park and Ride and between Haslingfield and Cambridge central train station will also be provided.

Proud to be part of the 50:50@50 initiative, trying to get more women involved in audax in the year Audax UK turns 50. Just drop me a line if you have any questions. Lower minimum speed this year to encourage new riders. We'll have the hall open all day, cafe-style. Families with older kids welcome: why not wave mum off on a longer ride, while dad and the teens enjoy a shorter rider?
