Description

This is an audax created in honour of my late mother, who passed away in November 2024. It takes in places significant to her life, including Heathfield (West Sussex) where she was born, Farthing Downs overlooking Netherne-on-the-Hill, where she was married, Kingswood (Surrey), where we all lived as a family for a number of years and Brighton, which she and my dad retired to and her final resting place. The return leg is the route I used to ride back from my parents, when I visited them in Brighton with my bike.
It is quite a hilly route but most of the climbing is completed before Heathfield. After that the route eases slightly but there are still a few challenges on the return route, so make sure you stock up before the return leg, where opportunities to refuel are limited.
With 4 controls and 4 info controls, the route follows some pleasant country lanes in the Surrey and Sussex countryside. Bring good lights as you will be riding in the dark and the roads are not well lit.
