Description

Join CTC Cambridge for an introduction to audax, taking in a tourist's eye view of Cambridge and quiet countryside - linked by some great infrastructure as you'd expect from the UK's capital of cycling. Ideal for anyone new to audax or riding with offspring who fancy their first AUK points, or anyone who just wants to see some of our favourite routes in the area. The route is designed in two loops. The church hall will be open all day so after your first loop you can join us for a light lunch, or leave a picnic at the hall - whatever works for you.

Starting in Haslingfield, it's our 32km loop first. We head out past the radio telescopes to join a traffic-free path into Cambridge. We loop past the University Library before walking over the river, pausing to look at the punts. Past the Senate House (no graduations planned today) and stop for a selfie or two outside King's College and the Corpus clock. We wiggle through little fens to join the DNA path and out into the villages, before making our way back to Haslingfield. After lunch, it's out again for the 23km loop to enjoy the countryside; quiet lanes and bumpy bridleways bring us back to Haslingfield, where we'll have the kettle on and food waiting.

After the chelsea bun challenges last year, there will be no buns! But there will be plenty of cake to go round...

Easy access to Cambridge central train station from London Kings Cross, London Liverpool Street and Ely. Limited car parking onsite reserved for those who really need it. Easy parking in Haslingfield in streets near the Methodist church, or at Trumpington Park and Ride just off the M11.

Entries open on 1 April and close ten days or so before the event to help admin. E-brevet available, with a QR code at the start and finish.

GPS, routesheet and notes will be emailed out a week before the event. GPS routes to and from Trumpington Park and Ride and between Haslingfield and Cambridge central train station will also be provided.

Please note; while children are welcome to join this event, they must be accompanied by an adult. Adults remain responsible for their children throughout the event.

Proud to be part of the 50:50@50 initiative, trying to get more women involved in audax in the year Audax UK turns 50. Just drop me a line if you have any questions. We'll have the hall open all day, cafe-style. Families with older kids welcome: why not wave mum off on a longer ride, while dad and the teens enjoy a shorter rider?
