Description

A new 400k permanent ride using the 2016 National 400 route devised by John Perrin, start in Stone Staffordshire and head into the Peaks through Ashbourne, Biggin and Buxton, also passing through Ironbridge, Shrewsbury and eventually into Wales at Llangollen, where you head back to Stone via Ellesmere and Newport. Validation by GPS and E-Brevet only. Some long sections of off road cycle paths(Monsal Trail and Tissington trail), but hard packed and fine on 25mm tyres. Route map on the organiser website (link over to the right) >>>
Start/finish anywhere on the route, but an early start at Stone will give you quieter roads over night in and out of Llangollen with the bonus of 24hr food available at McDonalds near Chirk(315km),24hr Battlefield services near Shrewsbury(just 3km off route at 353km), 24hr petrol Station at Newport(384km).

Controls at: Stone, Ashbourne, Buxton, Tideswell, Millers Dale, Carsington, Tatenhill, Coalport, Upton Magna, Shrawardine, Llangollen, Ellesmere, Upton Magna, Stone. The control locations pinned on the map top right, are the exact locations of the E-Brevet controls and your phone app will work within 250m of those pinned locations. These locations are also described in the route sheet, which can be downloaded below.

This is, in parts, an arduous ride over hilly, and exposed terrain. There are steep climbs and descents with some rough surfaces, please moderate your speed appropriately. You should study the route before setting out. You should carry food and drink, basic spares and tools, adequate clothing and lights.
