Description

A similar route to the long running Winter Solstice Calendar Event, but uses a few more lanes than the Calendar event. Starting in Marple, the ride heads out through Alderley Edge before crossing the Cheshire Plain passing Jodrell Bank Radio Telescope, Middlewich, Nantwich and Audlem before briefly entering Shropshire and Market Drayton. The return heads north through Whitchurch, Malpas to Aldford near Chester, then east to cross the Weaver on a short off road section, suitable for any bike, (riders should be aware that sections of gravel sometimes wash out ) then routing through Davenham, Peover and Wilmslow.
The route is mainly quiet lanes and B roads with 2 controls at cafes, plus many other cafe options, and several rail stations en route should things go wrong. Riders should be aware that some sections can have muddy surfaces and agricultural detritus and ride appropriately.
NOTE: Cafe Control at Aldford has closed down, with no options at Aldford, next shop at Waverton Km139.
