It's Just not Criccieth 300km

Description

314km cycling event starting from Nantwich. Controls at Baschurch, Abertridwr: Dafarn Newydd Stores, Trawsfynydd, Penrhyndeudraeth, Ruthin, Rhostyllen and Nantwich., plus 2 information controls.

A fantastic day journey through North Wales, passing through some less visited areas with some considerable climbing. Not impossible for a first 300km but ideally for experiences randonneurs

Some mighty fine scenery in store for you on this ride. Llyn Yyrnwy, the gated road to Trawsfynydd, Britannia Terrace in Porthmadog, the moorland between Festiniog to Ysbyty Ifan (one of my favourite places), the road through Clocaenog forest to Cyffilliog and Nant Power woods near Bersham to name a few. Some really remote sections add a real sense of occasion to the event.

The route follows the CCW Ruthin 200km route to Llanfyllin and then goes to Dafarn Newydd Stores at Abertridwy. The next section takes in Llyn Vyrnwy, the easy side of the Bwlch-y-Groes and the gated road to Trawsfynydd. Note: from Dafarn Newydd Store there is little or no alternative feeding options for the next 50km so ensure you plan for this. From Trawsfynydd you have to drag yourself up the climb at Prenteg (about 1.3km at an average of 12%) before you get to the halfway turn point, nearly, but not quite Criccieth. From here to Porthmadog and the excellent Brittania Terrace before getting to the control at Penrynduedraeth. Make sure to refuel here and make sure you have enough for the next 65km onboard including a emergency ration and full bidons as there is very little until Ruthin and there is plenty of climbing still to be done!
Crossing your path from earlier in the day at Maentwrog you pass through Ffestiniog and Ysbyty Ifan, crossing the A5 just past Pentrefoelas on to Clocaenog Forest roads at the back of Llyn Brenig passing through Cyffylliog and Bontuchel before eventually reaching Ruthin for a deserved control. The final 75km takes you up Llanbedr-Dyffrn-Clwyd, Llanarmon-yn-Ial, Bersham (24hr petrol station control), Bangor-on-Dee, Malpas, Cholmondely and finally Acton before arriving back in Nantwich to be welcomed with free post ride refreshments.
