Borders Five Hundred
An anticlockwise loop around Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. Ideal training ride for anyone thinking about their first 600 or LEL
The route heads up the Northumberland Coast with good views of the sea before heading inland after Bamburgh Castle. The route is relatively flat with the only noticeable climbs being 3 longer but relatively gentle climbs between Hawick and Peebles. It's a scenic option and there's some good long descents after the climbs. There are several choices for commercial options for anyone who wants to sleep overnight (details will be sent to entrants or just ask). From Peebles it's predominantly gently uphill until you cross the watershed and a long descent to Dumfries. From Dumfries it's a relatively easy return through Kielder Forest and Northumberland to Ponteland. There is no event overnight control but there are plenty of 24hr facilities and commercial accommodation in the middle section of the route.
