The Beacon Burns
A great post Covid19 event (hopefully) postponed from July. Soak in the views and struggle on those climbs around the Clee Hills in rural Shropshire and the approaches through Worcestershire. A Brand New Event
A great ride for people who enjoy love ridiculous climbs, providing a sense of achievement and some stunning views. It is not an easy route and must treated with respect. There are two big summits: Titterstone and Abdon Burf on Brown Clee. There are also some other challenging climbs including the 20% Wynniatts Way and the long drags up Stanford Bank and from Tenbury Wells to the Clees. The ascent of Abdon Burf on Brown Clee is a former incline plain to quarries and is rated at 20-25% in gradient for 1km which may be greasy in damp conditions and should be descended on foot. Disk brakes recommended. It is a private road with permissive bridleway access. The field will be limited ot thirty-five entrants to avoid congestion on the Brown Clee ascent. WARNING - PLEASE READ: (i) Riders MUST walk the descent off Brown Clee to avoid collision with upcoming cyclists. The road can also be greasy. (ii) There is a short piece of walking on Titterstone Clee and riders will need to lift their bikes over two kissing gates. (iii) Cycle shoes with treads are advised for the walked sections. (iv) Low gears are advised for 25% ascents of Wynniatts Way and Brown Clee. (iv) The average speed range is the upper 15-30kph for this event so a good level of fitness and speed is required to remain within the cut-off times. (v) Strong climbing legs essential. Due to all that Covid stuff, there will be little or no catering at the HQ due to distancing requirements and to reduce volunteers support - but the fee is a little cheaper than usual!
