Lots of climbing and exposed, remote moorland. Please ensure you and you bicycle are adequately prepared. From Caton CoOp/ATM into the heart of the Forest of Bowland for a descent of the Trough and on to Whalley for the first control, then skirt Pendle Hill on the way to Colne for the second. Both of these points provide shops or 24/7 ATM access. The next three controls need more consideration regarding when and where you start the ride. From Colne take the Old Rd to Skipton and then climb via Eastby, descend to Barden Tower followed by more climbing to the third control at Stump Cross Caverns and cafe at 100km. This is open everyday 9am-6pm but checking these times is advised. Turn back the way you came now for the rewarding descent to Grassington followed by gentle ascending along Littondale to the fourth, very welcoming, control at Litton - The Queens Arms pub, open everyday 12pm to 10.30pm bar Christmas Day (again I would check first!). Carry on to Halton Gill where the road turns south and climbs more steeply for a short while before another enjoyable descent to Stainforth. Northwest then as you begin climbing, via Horton-in-Ribblesdale, to Ribblehead Viadut and the less famous Denthead Viaduct into Dent which is the last control. A choice of pubs, cafes and shops here but nothing open 24hrs. Soon a steep but short climb via Gawthrop to my favourite section - the southwesterly descent of Barbondale towards the Devil's Bridge at Kirkby Lonsdale followed by a few flat A road km back to Caton. An editable routesheet and GPS link will be available with Brevet. Travel in either direction and start at any control or anywhere along the route if validating using GPS or the new eBrevet app.
