Description
The classic Start of Summertime event, and a Paris Brest Paris qualifier in 2027.
Theres a start / finish at the Wetherspoons in Stevenage Old Town, with a later start time than previous years to allow for breakfasts or a hot drink before you set off. The start is a flat 2km from the railway station and long stay car parking is just 300m away.
The outbound route has been tweaked and turns at Long Melford this year there is a new return route, taking in more of Suffolk then Essex. The classic mix of quiet Hertfordshire, Essex, and Suffolk countryside and lanes.
You head out past a windmill and via Buntingford and Wyddial before picking up familiar lanes where deer are often encountered. You flow along quiet lanes into Essex and onwards to Great Yeldham. Here the route changes from before and you head south east into some of the territory that in previous years was the return route.
Onwards to Long Melford you go, where lunch beckons or a quick snack before beginning your return journey. We turn north now on new lanes and explore more of Suffolk as we make our way back east.
Through Saffron Walden, not a control but options for food and drink. We then pass close by to the highest point in Essex, before returning to Hertfordshire. Here we pick up some familiar lanes that have been the outbound route in previous editions, and glide our way back to the finish.
Back at the Wetherspoons in the Old Town its time to rest, maybe with a pint or food, certainly with some stories. Its been well earnt.
Ill be offering E-Brevet, but being BRM you will also need to collect and complete a physical brevet card for validation.
Hopefully 2027 will be a dry sunny day version!
