Stage 1: The Ascent North
Starting and finishing from Insole Court, youll immediately head north for the toughest segment. The route climbs steeply towards Merthyr Tydfil, passing the beautiful Llwynon Reservoir before taking on the major challenge: conquering the Cwm Cadlan climb. A fast, thrilling descent into Penderyn marks your successful transition from the hills.
Stage 2: The Coastal Reward
Sweeping through towns like Glyn-neath and Jersey Marine, youll soon hit the coast. Ride through Swansea Marina and then follow the breathtaking coastal path around Swansea Bay. Your well-earned reward awaits at the halfway point: Mumbles Pier for essential refreshments and stunning views.
Stage 3: The Historic Finish
The return journey is a scenic tour of the South Wales coastline, guiding you east through Port Talbot, the seaside resort of Porthcawl, and then inland through Ogmore-by-Sea, Llantwit Major, and Llancarfan. Look out for a fascinating piece of local history at the 190km mark on your right: the sites of the Accursed Field and Gwal-y-Filiast. From here, you begin the final, triumphant descent into Cardiff and the finish line!
