Description
Nantwich to the Shropshire Hills AONB and back in a day. An interesting and challenging days riding awaits you.
The Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty makes up nearly 25% of the county of Shropshire and is definitely worth taking the day out to visit. The ride heads out through Loggerheads, past the nicely positioned Croxton Windmill, up through the gorge at Bishops Offley, through the grounds of Lilleshall Hall to visit their cafe and onto Shifnall. From here to Coalport with its bridge crossing the River Severn set deep in the valley meaning a steep downhill and an even steeper uphill! Next up is the wonderful historic town of Much Wenlock to Craven Arms along the shoulder of Wenlock Edge. Craven Arms is about halfway and has loads of places to eat so makes an ideal control location. Suitably fueled for the next 30km section which is predominately uphill but to compensate features some fantastic scenery and the historic town of Bishops Castle after which you are treated to a fantastic 15km descent down to Shrewsbury. The last leg from Shrewsbury back to Nantwich is 50km and is relatively flat. Despite it being a hilly ride it misses out on AAA points.
