Description
An early season 200 BRM which will count towards PBP qualification.
A pretty flat ride from Longridge out the coast, cross the River Wyre, pass Blackpool Tower and then to Southport before heading back to Longridge.
An X rated start from the CoOp at Longridge. From there north west with a free control in Garstang then onto the CoOp near the coast at Preesall. The route then goes south using the bridge over the River Wyre near Hambleton into Blackpool or, if the ferry is operating, you can take the short crossing of the River Wyre to Fleetwood and cycle down the prom to rejoin the route at Blackpool Tower the ferry is the nicer option and I will let you know on the day if it is running. The third control is the very nice Fairhaven Lakeside cafe in Lytham St Annes and the fourth control is the services on the A582. Southwest then, skirting Preston, for a section of NSL road/dual carriageway bashing with cycle path option to the fifth control at Booths in Becconsall. To Southport then and along the sea front to the sixth control at Formby services. Turn east here onto quieter roads, with a very short section of NCN cyclepath, towards the only significant section of climbing just beyond Parbold - the 110 m ascent of Stoney Lane and the first info control at the top of the climb. After cresting the top its a few km to the eighth control at wonderful Fredericks Ice Cream Parlour they do hot drinks and food too!. From here the route snakes and undulates along quite lanes to the second info control at Ribchester before finishing with a free control at Longridge.
Controls are commercial or info. E-Brevet can be used but as it is a BRM rather than BR signed Brevet Cards MUST be returned as well to validate. Postal details to return cards will be provided.
Longridge is 14km by bicycle from Preston west coast mainline train station or 8km from J31a of the M6. There are plenty of budget hotels in the area.
