Description
When the opportunity arose to take on the running of the Heart of England, we wanted to both recognise its history but also highlight the transition by giving the event a new name. With around 100km of the 300km route being new, it felt right that this should be more than simply Heart of England with a new organiser. Welcome to The Clansman.
Were proud to be taking on the event that Peter Holden built and ran for 25 years, and grateful for the opportunity to help it continue, giving many more riders the chance to experience the roads, challenge and character that have made it special.
To fit within TGV Audaxs event framework, the route now starts at our usual location in Tadpole Garden Village, Swindon, before heading north to the customary control at Alcester. From there, the route remains largely unchanged, passing through Atherstone, Kirkby Mallory, Daventry and Kidlington. The final section has been revised to take the most direct route back to Tadpole Garden Village in Swindon. At 314km, the new route is also slightly longer than the original.
Important - Unlike HoE, there is no provision for sleeping before or after the event. There is a Premier Inn 3.5K to Audax start.
We hope returning riders will recognise many of their favourite roads and familiar control locations, while enjoying the new sections that make The Clansman something of its own. For those new, we hope you enjoy the route.

- This is a shoestring event with complimentary refreshments and light snacks
- The time of the event is as per the calendar listing and is non negotiable
- The start is an outdoor public space
- There is no parking on street is available
- There are no toilet facilities provided
- Lights are required
- Mudguards are not mandatory but recommended
- The route sheet should be read by all riders as it may contain information on optional supplies stops, road types and surface conditions
