Description
A leisurely day out, heading West from Llandrindod Wells, the route leads you to Buelah. From thereon you'll follow lanes to the hamlet of Abergwesyn and then crossing the common the climb the legendary Devil's Staircase, and via a couple more climbs to Tregaron. Here there's a choice of places to refuel, and maybe something for the back pocket too.
Leaving Tregaron you head north to Ffair-Rhos, where you start to cross the mid-Walrs desert. Initially the route is an ever narrowing lane, eventually the route becomes a gravel trail. The rolling horizon is soon joined by the Claerwen reservoir, which you ride alongside for the remainder of the track.
There's an info control at the end of the track. From thereon the route Once you reach the dam, the tarmac resumes for the rest of route. You'll cross the Garreg Ddu dam and pass adjacent to Caban Coch reservoir and dam. Depending on your progress, you might be in time for an 'off-piste' pit stop at the Elan Visitor Centre - otherwise its through Rhayader and after a couple more rises - back to arriveé, and prepare for the brunch social in the morning.
