Description

Whereas the 400A was constructed to represent 'A Good Day's Cycling' along roads and tracks that Mike Hall rode in various parts of the world. The 600D expand on that theme.
Starting from Llandrindod, the ride takes the road to Beulah and onwards to Tregaron. As a 'warmer-up', the Devil's Staircase is the first challenge of the day. After a breather passing through the nature reserve, the ride heads back East along the Mountain track to The Elan Valley. Rising up The Elan Valley and down to the head of The Cwmystwyth Valley, the ride then takes the lane through Llangurig and onto Llanidloes. There will be a choice of nominated control cafes here. The ride then continues through the Hafron Forest, Staylittle, Machynlleth to the coastal town of Tywyn. Onwards to Dolgellau along NCR82, there will be a checkpoint along this lane. Rising out of Dolgellau on through Dinas Maldwydd to tackle Bwlch-y-Goes before dropping down to picturesque Lake Vyrnwy. Onwards over more grass dessert and then a welcome section on to Newtown. Climbing out of Newtown to (and through) the sleepy market towns of Knighton, Presteigne and Kington, Abergavenny - collecting proof of passage as you go. Cresting The Gopel Pass from the flatter south side, you drop down for some refreshments at Drover Cycles on the outskirts of Hay-on-Wye. Skirting the Brecon beacons making your way through Llangorse, Talybont-on-Usk, Penderyn, dropping down another "Devil", this time its the Devil's Elbow. There's a final opportunity to pit-stop as you leave Sennybridge. The final push is the climb up probably the only lane dual carriageway in the UK prior to crossing the west side of 'Yr Epynt' . The final stretch from Tirabad, Beulah, Newbridge-on-Wye as a final warm down for your return to arriveé at Highland Moors.
The route follows public rights of way throughout, some sections are on rough lanes/tracks, it is recommended that road bikes are fitted with 28mm tyres minimum are fitted. And to get the ultimate ride experience, there are places to bivvy overnight.
And once you've recovered, join everyone on Sunday morning for brunch, enjoy a hog roast/veggie bap and raise a beer to Mike

The 600D starts early on Friday so averyone can be finished and attend the post event social on the sunday. For those of you that the 400 'Just isn't enough', here's the 600. A ride that conquers just about wevery notable climb in Wales. From Bwlch-y-Groes in the north, to the Gospel Pass and the Devil's Stairczse in the south. And in between? Just too many to shake a back wheel at.
