Description
Note A PBP pre qualifier this year.
An x rated outing that includes a crossing of the Severn suspension bridge, and a night time crossing of the Gospel pass under the gaze of a full moon 85% illumination. Fast roads overnight and easier return leg.
Youll cross the Chilterns early Saturday, before more gentle terrain takes you across to the southern Cotswolds. After crossing the Cotswolds youll have a flat run to the Severn suspension bridge, arriving there late afternoon or early evening. Across into Wales youll make your way to Abergavenny, for a night crossing of the Gospel Pass, hopefully under the gaze of a full moon 85% illumination if the skies remain clear. Abergavenny has 24hr services before your crossing.
Down to Hay on Wye then onwards to Hereford for 24hr services and hotels if youre quick enough at ~ 340km. Then a relatively gentle rolling route skirting the northern Cotswolds edges, we avoid any gratuitous climbs with about four well spaced climbs with the steepest hills around 13%. With an early start on the Sunday you may be getting hungry and Wellesbourne appears at just the right time. You continue on into the gentler Northamptonshire countryside with a final turn south for home through flatter Bedfordshire and back into Hertfordshire. A final climb at 7%, then fairly gentle terrain dropping back down to Stevenage.
Its convenient for trains out of Cambridge or Kings Cross, or stations on the East Coast main line. The finish will be a pub which we are likely to man from 31 hours elapsed upwards. There are the usual collection of Premier Inn, Holiday Inn, Ibis hotels plus other options near the start / finish. For overnight hotels on Sat night, if you are a little quicker then book Tewkesbury ~ 390km otherwise Hereford ~ 340km for a more full value rider.
It will be setup for validation via the Audax UK EBrevet smartphone app as per all my other events.
