Description
An exciting multi surface events passing through the spectacular mid Wales desert. For those that want a good challenging day out on their MTB or Gravel bike - (although a road bike with a minimum of 28mm tyres will also do). The route alternates between some small stretches of metalled roads, then minor roads / green lanes / forestry tracks / bridleways. There will be streams to ford during the ride.
Leaving Llandrindod and heading down through Newbridge-on-Wye, you soon pick-up quiet lanes to settle into. This sets the trend for most of the ride. You'll have green lanes and tracks to follow for just about all of the ride.
Somewhere along the first stage a checkpoint will be waiting for you with basic fuel should you need it - pit-stops are few and far between.
There's a basic control at the far west extreme of thr route, here you'll find goodies waiting for you. Llanidloes is the only metropolis you'll pass through, and there's plenty of places to eat (and for most dietary requirements). Moving on along lanes out of town, the route is a little less challenging, you'll pick-up the Glyndwr's Way through the woods to Bwlch-y-Sarnau and a chance to top-up the water bottle at the community café . Now on the home stretch, there's a few more kilometres of green lanes before a bit of A-road and then lanes back to Llandrindod Wells.
Spirited cycling is the mantra of the day, but you'll be rewarded with spectacular views throughout your journey.
