Description
A new event for 2026. BREVET CARDS HAVE BEEN ORDERED WITH A FEW SPARE, WHEN THEYRE GONE THEY GONE AND ENTRIES WILL CLOSE, SO IF YOU WANT TO RIDE THEN ENTER WHILST IT IS STILL OPEN
Aimed at a straight forward autumnal route. A pleasant route through Cheshire and Shropshire mainly using lanes and smaller roads wherever possible. The route does find a few climbs but nothing major. Starts at a Greggs / service station and a pub finish. Two cafes, one Spar and two easy infos. A 08:30 start should hopefully help anyone wanting to get to the start using the train network.
Aah, autumn, summer has long passed but their are decent days in October. Expect muddy lanes winter bike with mudguards is your best bet, expect puddles if its rained recently, expect it to go dark from 18:00 onwards, expect a cracking route with decent scenery.
We leave Crewe to head into the lanes to Astbury for an easy info control. Now we head NW to pass through Knutsford and over to Dunham Massey to get to our first cafe of the day at Dunham Barn.
Suitable refreshed we now head south west to Tilston. A few lumpy bits to get over, nothing too challenging but surprising when you usually think of Cheshire as being as flat plain. Tilsons cafe stop is the Lost Barn, dont worry about not finding it, the GPS will take you straight to it. From here its border country, passing between England an Wales a few times as well as from Cheshire to Shropshire on the English side as we pass through Ellesmere to get to Baschurch. There is a convenience store in Baschurch available for a pavement picnic to fuel the last leg, if your in Baschurch before 16:00 then Moor Farm Shop Cafe with toilets should be available. The last leg is all pretty straightforward, there a short, sharp climb out of Prees followed by a bit of a drag to Ightfield to get done and then its decent roads through Audlem to get to Crewe where a warm welcome awaits. Pub finish with food and drinks available for purchase.
