Description

64 km ride from Ballater, with controls at Aboyne, Crathie and 1 information control. Explore the back roads of Royal Deeside in its autumnal splendour.
Price includes a pocket snack and a tasty finishing treat, purchased from a charity.

The route allows you to see Royal Deeside and visit several interesting locations connected to the Royal Family. If the Balmoral Estate grounds are open, you may be able to visit them without an admission charge. Numerous good cafes at 16, 26 and 52kms. 3 public toilets on route.

The route uses some cycle paths. These are occasionally narrow and there are one or two points where you might dismount briefly if on narrow tyres. In general though, these sections are easy cycling and add a lot of interest to the route.

This Audax is part of the Ballater weekend rides, which will explore the rural roads, history and culinary highlights of Royal Deeside and the surrounding area. Plenty of nearby accommodation: bothies, campsites and hotels. Ballater Hostel is recommended.
